Top 5 Videos Of 2018 & My Personal Favorite

It’s officially 2019 and as I settle into the new year, I wanted to share my top 5 videos (based on views) from 2018. So, in order of most viewed to least, here they are. Plus, my own personal favorite - despite the views. For me personally, this video is one that I think represents my personal style and expression the best, and I hope to make more like it in the coming months.

How To Not Look Like A Tourist | You could say this is tied for not only my most viewed video, but also my most controversial video. It also has to be the one that caught me the most off guard. I got the idea after returning home from my trip to Italy last year and receiving quite a few e-mails and DM’s about how the style there compared and contrasted to the overall style here, and if I had any general recommendations. After a little bit of thinking, I put together some of my top observations and before I knew it, this was my most viewed video of all time. While I’m grateful for the exposure this video has received, I wish I could quiet the comments just a bit because more and more frequently they’re becoming a little mean spirited and I fear a lot of viewers forget that I’m a person with feelings on the other end of their comments. None-the-less, you can view the video below if you’re interested.

How To Look Expensive - Styling Hacks and Tips | One of the trickiest things about YouTube for me has been navigating the line between catchy and misleading and trying to find a balance that feels authentic to me, while also garnering enough views to make this my full-time job with a viable income. This has required me to pay close attention to trends and analytics (something I learned during my stint as a public relations employee). A quick glance through google analytics and commonly searched words and phrases last year, lead me to this series and my second most viewed video of 2018.

5 Things You Don’t Need In Your Closet | My 3rd most viewed video is all about the top 5 things I think you should consider removing from your closet in order to free yourself from clutter and get one step closer to finding and loving your personal style.

20 Pieces, Endless Outfits | One of my favorite videos to date is the 20 piece mock capsule that I put together from my own wardrobe to create a multitude of looks. I had so much fun putting this together and the feedback I received made it even more worthwhile and rewarding!

Style Secrets Every Stylish Woman Knows | Last but not least is a round up of some of the style pointers I’ve noticed stylish women implement, as well as a few that have helped me figure out my own personal style.

BONUS VIDEO: Maine Travel Vlog | Finally, despite the “low” view count, my Maine travel video from last year is the one I’m the most proud of. For me, I think it represents my personal style and creative expression the best and I would love to make more videos like this in the future. It’s a shame that these types of videos aren’t enough to sustain a channel.

2018 Recap & some 2019 hopes

f09049b436590fd5f53f0f5c79b50637.jpg

This year, like every year, was a mix of good, bad and ordinary. Though I only share the good on social media, I’ve been working on welcoming the ups and downs as an important part of life. I’ve been trying to get better at riding the waves and enjoying the twists and turns they provide. Rather than feel disappointed and discontented when I either don’t meet a goal or I start to compare myself to others, I’ve been working on feeling settled in the moment. It’s easy to say, but everyone’s path truly does look different, and we never know what life has in store for us. The only thing I am certain of, is that life is a wild ride and while it’s certainly a good idea to set goals and hold ourselves accountable for personal growth, it’s equally important to not rush the process. With this sentiment fresh in my mind, I want to take a moment to reflect on the last 365 days before I welcome 2019 with open arms and zero expectations but a few hopes.

2018 Recap

In 2018 I …..

Stuck to a schedule of posting twice a week and was blown away by the warm reception I received from so many of you. As a result, I was able to make this my full-time job and I feel so lucky to do so

Traveled to Tuscany, London, Asheville, Maine, The Cape, Florida and Costa Rica

Finally painted the living room and hung some of the many pictures and paintings we’ve been collecting

Found a stray kitten in my neighborhood and worked with the Charleston Animal Society to find her a loving home

2019 Hopes

In 2019 I hope to ….

Travel more. I feel so lucky that I’ve been able to travel frequently and this year I hope to see even more of this beautiful world

Become more comfortable speaking Spanish. Since I’ve heard it my whole life, I can understand at an almost fluent level, but I can’t quite speak at one and I’d like to change that this year

Continue to create content that provides a service and hopefully help at least one person with every video. So much of the content I produce is a result of things I wish someone had taught me, and it lights my passion on fire when I receive a comment or e-mail from someone saying that my videos have helped them

Reignite my passion for singing and performing. Many of you know that I’m a classically trained vocalist, but since graduating and entering the real world, I haven’t made nearly enough time for my first love - it takes a lot of time! To make up for lost time, this year I’d like to rebalance the scales a bit. I truly believe that artistic expression is such a healthy and important thing to share, and I miss doing so through song

Welcome my 32nd year on this earth with a smile and good health

Relearn how to ride a bike without falling off haha!

I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season and if you celebrate Christmas, then Merry Christmas Eve! I’ve been spending the second half of our holiday on the Cape and will be taking the next week or so off from posting.

I’ll still be sharing occassionally on Instagram, but I won’t have any new blog posts or videos. I hope you have a lovely week ahead and very happy, healthy and safe start to the new year.

The Classic Black Blazer | Some Great Picks For Your Wardrobe & A Few Outfit Ideas

There’s no denying that a timeless blazer in a solid color like black or navy is a wardrobe staple. This timeless topper is perfect for work to weekend and when chosen in a lightweight, breathable wool, can be worn all year. Since the holidays are here and I think, nothing looks more classic than a blazer over a cami or classic dress, I want to dedicate today’s post to this wardrobe workhorse.

A simple silhouette, delicate buttons (I prefer 1 or 2 button closure) and tailoring (only single-breasted for me) to make it flattering are a must for a blazer that can be worn for years to come and with the rest of your wardrobe.

These features coupled with a luxurious light wool material or wool blend and lining make for the perfect investment piece. Unsurprisingly, you can find a blazer that hits these points at a variety of price points from reasonable to outrageous and everything in between, so I’ve rounded up a nice selection at a few different price points to help make your search a little easier.

Also, don’t hesitate to check eBay, ETSY and vintage and second-hand stores for beautifully made jackets that won’t break the bank. Thrifting is one of my personal favorite ways to add gorgeous pieces to my wardrobe when I want high quality without the price tag. At the bottom of this post I’ve also rounded up a few of my favorite black blazer inspiration pictures to help inspire you. You can see even more outfits here.

5 Classic Winter Essentials I Wear Every Year

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Winter is officially here and I’m taking full advantage of the colder temps to wear my favorite essentials. These pieces are the staples that I come back to year after year to keep me warm, stylish and comfortable. Each of these items can be easily mixed and matched together for a variety of looks and allow me to feel put together without sacrificing warmth.

I’ve embedded everything down below along with some shoppable widgets but like always, I encourage you to shop your closet before making a purchase and evaluate a piece in it’s entirety before you add it to your closet. Also, never hesitate to check your local second hand and vintage shops as well as eBay, ETSY, Poshmark and the like for one of a kind vintage finds and gently pre-owned pieces at a fraction of their traditional retail price.
