Monday Must-Have: Dry Shampoo

Happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend filled with at least a little bit of sunshine. Even though it rained all day Saturday, Sunday was absolutely perfection and actually felt like spring is on the way. The sudden shift in the weather signaled that it is officially time to change up my routine for the impending sunshine and humidity. When the shift in the seasons occurs, the first thing I do is change up my hair care which always includes upping the ante on my dry shampoo game. As you know, I have very thick hair and have found that the less I wash it the better. Needless to say, I rely heavily on dry shampoo to extend the time between washes (usually 3 days) while keeping my hair looking fresh. Over the years I have tried countless dry shampoos on the market and feel confident that I have narrowed in down to three that truly deliver. I have outlined these below along with a brief overview of my thoughts that I hope help you in your quest for the perfect dry shampoo.

One Love Organics Healthy Locks Dry Shampoo Powder

I really love this dry shampoo! Not only are the ingredients super clean (rice and corn starch are the top ingredients), but I find that the powder isn't too powdery and contains "a unique blend of highly absorbent Georgia Kaolin Clay, hyularonic acid, and silica rich bamboo extract." These ingredients work in synergy to strengthen and nourish the hair between shampoos and leave my hair feeling fresh and volumized without ever feeling weighed down. The key to using this powder though (especially for those of you with dark hair like me) is to use it very sparingly. To avoid looking like I have a scalp full of powder, I apply this at night to allow it to absorb the oils. Rather than shake it directly into my hair, I put some into my hands and rub them together before massaging the product into my scalp. When I wake up in the morning all I have to do is brush through my hair, give it a good shake and I'm all set.

ALTERNA Haircare Caviar Anti-Aging Dry Shampoo

Like the One Love Organics, this dry shampoo is a powder that when applied to the roots acts like a "shower in a bottle." Talc-free and with a gorgeous, light and fresh scent, this dry shampoo has quickly become one of my favorites. Not only does it extent the length of my blowout but my hair actually looks better after I apply this. True to their word, this dry shampoo absorbs excess oil and product buildup without weighing down my style. Also like the One Love Organics, I apply this at night in my hands and then into my hair and when I brush it out in the morning I look as though I spent the evening at the salon - magic!

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day (PhD) Dry Shampoo

Another wonderful product, the Living Proof dry shampoo comes in an aerosol container and I find is best applied directly to the roots. Unlike the ALTERNA and One Love Organics, I prefer to apply this one in the morning and find that it adds shine, volume, a little texture and a lot of oompf to my style. I also find that this one works best on days when my hair isn't super oily (day 2 usually) or when it isn't too hot outside and I won't be spending the day outside.

Until next time!
